ChiWhoBike #16

A young woman stands smiling in front of complex bike trailer with tubes and two beer tap handles coming out of the top, with colorful lights from it shining onto a grassy field at night. She has shoulder length brown hair, pale skin and is wearing purple shorts and a black shirt with a white tea bag on it that says 'tea shirt'.

This is my old classic Schwinn that I love, and then I have a cart attached to it, which is a converted Burley child cart that was in terrible condition. I tore it apart and built it up to be what I call the Pint Peddler, which is a beer cart where I serve beer, cider, tepache, and anything you can think of that’s fermented. And I give it out for free! I get tips, but other than that it’s fair game. Any alcohol that’s on it you can go and serve yourself.

Living on the South side is completely different than the North side. There’s a lot more infrastructure even in Avondale, where I commute, but in any neighborhood close to the lake there’s just a lot more bike lanes. Whereas in Pilsen, there’s a couple, but they’re on faster streets, so they don’t really think about biking in those areas very much. Like biking Damen it’s super shady from Pilsen to Wicker Park but then, when you hit Wicker Park, there’s a bike lane, and cars are slower. There’s a huge difference between how they treat streets in the South Side then the North side for sure.

West Town Bikes has helped me a ton, they’re great, and I’m gonna put in a plug for them! So if there’s anything you want to learn, I took their bike building class, it was awesome and then they also have open shops.
