ChiWhoBike #82
I like being able to spend time with him. He works a lot, so when we spend time together and we bike, we ride next to each other. We talk a lot, we laugh. He names the wildlife. Don’t ask me why, but he does. And we just have a good time making up fun conversations as we ride.
These are our Aventon e-bikes. We got them last year, and they’re pedal assist bikes, so the motor doesn’t engage unless you’re pedaling. The battery lasts for up to 50 miles, so we can easily do the whole North Branch Trail and back. And we got ebikes to enjoy the ride. You take your time, do the whole trail, enjoy it, look for wild animals and stuff. We were using our regular bikes, and doing the whole trail can get exhausting, because it is like 35 miles round trip, and we just wanna kind of cruise and just enjoy our time. And having an e-bike doesn’t make you lazy or like you don’t want to do the work -it just kind of helps you along a little bit. You get more of a relaxed ride, a more beautiful cruise. And we enjoy each other’s company more because we can focus on each other more than focusing on, the physical aspect of a regular bike at this point in our biking career.
We also started to not hook them up to our car and actually ride to the trail. It’s two and a half miles from our house, so we do that now and we have been trying to ride them along the bike routes to maybe go get dinner or something, but just a little bit because we’re kind of new to Chicago streets.
We’d like to branch out with more trails. I’ve been looking online for trails near Chicago, just different ones because there’s trails all over the place. And it’s probably premature to mention this, but I’m going to anyways - there’s talk of them making a trail that connects from the North Branch that goes straight past our house all the way downtown or the 606 trail. So they want to connect it all together, and that would be amazing for us.
