ChiWhoBike #1

A man with silver hair and a dark beard wearing a pale purple short sleeved button down and tan shorts standing in front of a long red Tern bike, with a seat on the back that has a child's cup on it. A small child's bicycle can be seen behind the back of the bike.

I like that my daughter knows where all of her favorite spots are because we bike there, and when she’s in a car seat she never points anything out. On the back of the bike she saw the butterflies, coming here, and the birds. Now she wants to ride on her own, she wants a bit of independence, so she’s not as keen on the cargo seat anymore. She wants her own ride, but she accepts she can’t ride in traffic, and that some places are too far for her. She likes what we did today, where I towed her bike till we got to the trail - you just kind of drop a wheel into the pannier and throw a bungee around it and it’ll ride like a trailer. Until we get to some place that’s safe for her to ride on her own, we’ll do that, and then I’ll let her have her independence, and she’s just four and a half.

If you think cyclists are being like, adversarial, that’s because they’re feeling in danger because of something you did. They’re not out looking to fight you, they’re just trying to get somewhere. Most of my riding is solo, just because of commuting and such, and if a cyclist is getting in your face at a light or something, you were probably doing something very dangerous a block back and weren’t paying attention.

A paved bike trail with green grass and trees in the background, with a man in a pale purple colored shirt on a bike with bags on the back stopped next to his small daughter, who is holding her small red bike. A second man in the background is biking away, out of focus.
